and if you make another linux client, PLEASE see if it can be ported over to OSX…..

    I wouldn’t use Windows otherwise…

    For… Paltalk?

    #177012

Yes for Paltalk. If there is a Linux version, odds are it can be compiled under OSX as well. I have been asking Paltalk for years to get an OSX version….but no go at this point. I would hardly use Windows if I could run paltalk on OSX. Also, my MacBook Pro running Windows XP does not have the Stereo Mix mixer so I can not spin music from the laptop directly, I use my iPod and line in at the moment, but I know on OSX that task would be trivial.

Well, right now, I’m actually laughing at the fact that you changed your OS prefs just for Paltalk. Ever thought about a virtual machine?

Also, I think you might be able to run Paltalk in wine on Linux, but there is no version for anything but Windows.

As far as the stereo mix goes, that depends on whether or not your sound card supports it. It usually has nothing to do with the OS.

hey dj did they ever say why they dont have a paltalk for mac?

I don’t JUST use Windows for Paltalk…I use Windows for other things too, I run Windows XP on my MacBook Pro using Dual Boot, and I also have Windows XP and Vista installed as virtual machines for other things. The problem was, until recently you could not use the built in cam for the virtual machine, but Apple supplied Windows drivers to use it when you dual boot.

Also, The Sigmatal sound hardware CAN support the stereo mix, some Dell laptops are the same way, and by installing alternate drivers, you get the stereo mix back. It is a driver issue. But all the hacks and alternate drivers I have tried do not work. The MacBook Pro, MacBook, and iMac use Sigmatel, the Mac Pro uses RealTek (which does have the Stereo Mix).

And yes, Paltalk stated they have no OSX version. Which really blows. If there was an X11 version or Linux version, it probably could be compiled for OSX as well….but ohhh well, I am not a programmer….so I dont know. I would think however that since Paltalk uses Linux for most of their backend, that they would have a Linux Client.

I have tried the OSX version of WINE (called Crossover Mac) and a lot of Windows programs work, but not Paltalk. SO I stick to my virtual machines, or dual boot.

And Loco, if you want a Mac, get it…the laptops are great, especially when you can run and load most version of Windows in a virutal machine, or dual boot into Windows or Linux…..it is rather awesome. I do prefer OSX personally….hell, I dont even run anti-virus software on the OSX side.
